Project #5 - Planetary Coaster - Design Stage This coaster design required me to step ahead of the learning curve a bit and discover how to use Grasshopper to create a planetary gear system that I could integrate to allow for the control of the spinning top plate. I will be using a combination of clear and white acrylic to build as they maintain structure well and will minimize the risk of gear binding in operation. I choose white to hide the internal mechanisms to give it a cleaner finish while keeping the bottom clear so users could flip it over to see how it functions. I intend to use acrylic rod and acrylic glue to assemble the pieces and fasten the appropriate layers to each other to allow the desired functionality to work. This project required the appropriate use of layers to help separate my components to make them easier to manipulate.
Project #9 - Milestone Projects This semester of learning Object Design was a great deal of fun. I enjoyed being introduced to a new 3D modelling software, Rhino, and be able to see how it would have very real practical applications to my practice immediately. I did struggle a fair bit with this semester due to starting the year off with 2 large public art installations that took a great deal of my focus. Working with Blogger to express myself also came with a great deal of limitations and frustrations that left me feeling unable to express the way I would like and this has had a tangible impact on the quality, bulk and thoroughness of my posts. I love this model of creation journaling, I may just need to find a better medium that organizes content more like I see it in my brain. Along with the extra ciriculars this semester, I also lost my dad on Halloween which was really hard to deal with and required me to go above an beyond for my family which also effected my studies. ...
